About Us
SECOND WIND is an open, spiritual community in San Francisco where all are welcome. We’re certainly an eclectic gathering of people but we share a desire to carve time into our lives to be intentional as we navigate life and the faith journey in a purposeful way. Some of us have had positive religious experiences but we craved something more, others have had no intentional spiritual education but are curious, and still others have seen the worst of their religious upbringings but are hopeful and courageous enough to believe that not everything God-related is abusive.
Our Mission Statement
We live that out by…
EXCITING DREAMS: We believe each of us has different passions, strengths, skills and ideas to make a difference in this world. We want to provide resources and start conversations that help each of us grow and live in alignment with our values.
EXPERIENCING BELONGING: We believe in community. Not “small-talk friends,” but real community where we don’t have to fake, impress, or promote ourselves. We value honesty and authenticity and want to empower each other through acceptance, support and meaningful interaction.
EXTENDING COMPASSION: We believe that the one thing all spiritual and religious journeys have in common is to move us to live beyond ourselves in a way that helps contribute to the “repair of the world.” Our spiritual journeys must start with ourselves but must ultimately lead us to serve others, to be the allies of those who have no voice or who have been marginalized by our culture’s power structures.
EXPLORING GOD: We believe in the divine, in something more. But not in any one picture that attempts to provide an exclusive answer. We embrace this ultimate mystery while still searching for a transforming encounter with God. We acknowledge this higher power, this personal experience, or this universal sense in different ways, and we come together to learn from each other and honor our personal ongoing journeys. At the very least, we believe that to know unselfish love is to begin to know God. So we start there.
Here’s to the journey!
